The Value of Certification
Purpose of certification:
1. To establish and maintain a personal contact with each leadership person
active in the catechetical ministry.
2. To determine whether the required educational and experiential background is present in those applying for positions in catechetics/religious education.
3. To ensure that there is both a common understanding and a willingness to accomplish the diocesan goals direction, vision and policies regarding catechetics/religious education.
Benefits of certification:
1. Establishes relationships among leadership personnel working in catechetical ministry at all levels.
2. Builds a stronger support system for;
a. The catechetical leader
b. The profession and the ministry itself
c. The pastors and parishes who have the benefit of qualified catechetical and religious education personnel.
3. Assures shared vision in accomplishing the catechetical mission in the Diocese of Reno.
4. Qualifies a person for certain parish positions in catechetics/religious education.
Goals for certification:
1. To provide local and national recognition for the standards and procedures of the Diocese of Reno for certifying persons for ministry.
2. To ensure appropriate formation for those persons engaged in catechetical ministry.
3. To be certified as a Catechetical Leader is to be committed to ongoing formation in the knowledge and skills of religious education.
