Youth Ministry Certification Program
Youth Ministry can be tough. Teens who are facing problems turn to you with deep questions on faith. You’re faced with demands on your time. Challenges to keeping organized. Getting the parents and church involved. Acting as God’s hands and feet in a world that has forgotten how to love.
Transform your calling to serve the youth into a more effective and meaningful ministry. Equip yourself with all the theological knowledge, latest approaches, and most effective tools to be the best leader you can be.
God knows, your teens deserve it!
Who can participate?
Youth ministers, Directors of Religious Education, campus ministers, teachers, administrators, pastors, seminarians and religious. Participants must be over 18 years of age and/or high school graduates.
What will I learn?
Course One: Principles of Youth Ministry presents the foundational understanding and principles for developing effective, comprehensive ministry with young and older adolescents. It presents the vision and principles for youth ministry and a model for developing youth ministry which incorporates developmentally appropriate youth programming, strengthens family life, involves young people as integral members of the faith community, and collaborates with civic organizations in a common effort to promote positive youth development.
Course Two: Practices of Youth Ministry explores the development of comprehensive youth ministry through the sharing of community resources. Rooted in a theological and pastoral vision of community life, this course develops foundational understanding that will assist leaders in implementing a vision for dynamic youth ministry. This includes skills for advocacy, planning and organizing youth ministry. Methods for collaboration among ministries and in teams will be developed.
Course Three: Foundations for Ministry leadership explores the theology, principles and practices of effective leadership in Christian ministry. Participants will explore current leadership approaches and Christian perspectives on leadership. Participants learn how to empower individuals and teams of leaders for youth ministry. The class combines theory with experiential learning. Participants explore 1) leadership theory and assessment of effective leadership styles; 2) theological and pastoral foundations for understanding leadership and empowerment; and 3) tools for inviting, preparing and nurturing adult and youth leaders in ministry.
Course Four: Skills for Christian Leadership addresses the theories and skills needed for principle centered leadership in ministry. Participants will develop a practical, working understanding of leadership process and skills and the experiential ability to use these skills. The course stresses the application of leadership skills to various ministry settings, problems and issues.
Why is this important?
Participating leaders will gain:
· Confidence in applying the most innovative theory and approaches in their ministry.
